Retractable Patio Awnings

In most cases, the bigger the Retractable Awning, the better. The sun's position changes throughout the day and across seasons, so a larger Awning is needed for year-round shade compared to just summer shading.

Ideal Awning Size and Projection

1. Width: A Patio Awning should be at least 250mm (preferably 500mm) wider than the door or window it shades.
2. Projection: For comfortable seating under the Awning, consider the property's aspect to the sun, the Awning's height, and the blinds pitch. We recommend a minimum projection of 3 metres for a suitable sitting area.

Enhancing Shade with Valances

Standard and variable valances can significantly impact the shade level, especially in south-facing gardens. Our advisors can provide various options to maximise shade in your space.

Using our bespoke design service, we are able to provide many solutions to enable our teams to install our Awnings where others cannot. Using custom made brackets and framework we can engineer solutions to enable installation in most circumstances. It is extremely common for us to install to bungalows!

Whilst a conservatory is rarely strong enough to install an Awning directly, we regularly install our Awnings on posts that are sunk into the ground in front of building such as conservatories. This allows for the Awning to look like part of the building when, in fact, it is totally independent.

For those looking to shade the conservatory roof itself then you should consider Exterior Conservatory Blinds. These products are specifically designed to provide shade and dramatically reduce the temperature inside the room without cutting the light levels.

Whilst there can be exceptions (for example listed buildings or conservation areas), it is very rare to require planning permission for a Retractable Awning. Whilst they are designed to be a permanent fixture they are still deemed as temporary and people can (and do) remove them to take with them if they move house.
